About Verte
St. Joseph’s School had established its eco-club named “Verte” (French Word, meaning: Green) in the year 2002. The club was formed with the specific objective of providing a forum through which students could reach out to influence and engage their parents as well as neighbourhood communities to promote sound environmental behaviour. Over a period of time, it undertook several programmes to actively involve with nature, physically and spiritually to deliver services to local community.
Since its inception, various campaigns, activities, competitions, drives and flash mobs are organized by the club members for motivating the students:
- To keep their surroundings clean and green.
- To promote ethos of conservation of water and energy.
- To imbibe habits and life style for minimum waste generation.
Verte is an active member of the Sustainable Schools Initiative (SSI) started by the Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi since its inception. This helps the club to reduce the school's ecological footprint and increase 'ecological handprint' which is actions towards achieving sustainability. The club has won the prestigious “Green Audit” award for the years 2014-2015 and 2018-2019 which has further encouraged students to participate and take up meaningful environmental activities and projects. It also organizes hands-on activities, experiential education and field exposures for students that are vital to achieve sustainable knowledge and understanding.
